Founded in 1958, Herno took its name from the stream that runs through Lesa, an Italian municipality in the province of Novara, overlooking the Piedmont shore of Lake Maggiore; the H was added for the brand's more international vision, Vision definitely realised.

The company began its journey thanks to the idea of Giuseppe Marenzi and his wife Alessandra Diana, who realised the possibility of creating something powerful and original from cotton treated with the castor oil of war-displaced aircraft. Thus the desire to produce men's raincoats was born and the brand immediately became recognisable, thanks to the very high quality of the fabrics and the study of the details and cuts of the garments. In the mid-1950s, in addition to the men's collections, Herno also made a name for itself in the women's world and the first cashmere garments and coats were created. After a difficult time in the 1990s, it was during the same period that Herno came back to life and became even more established in the fashion sector, becoming a real leader. Since 2007, with the second generation (headed by Claudio Marenzi, also president of Pitti Immagine since 2017), the brand has specialised in the continuous search for high-performance technological fabrics and the constant discovery of new processing techniques.
